What are Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch?
Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treat wrinkles and lines and enhance lips. They contain a crystal-clear gel made from non-animal hyaluronic acid and water. The gel is a biotechnologically produced version of hyaluronic acid, a tissue friendly substance that occurs naturally in the body. Restylane, Perlane or RestylaneTouch is injected into the skin to create a natural beauty lift. Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch contain Non-Animal Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA ), which is the basis of all Q-Med products. Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in our bodies. Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch are injected into the skin in tiny quantities using a very fine needle. The gel gives natural volume and smoothes wrinkles and lines or plumps out lips.
The Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treatment is very quick and often takes less than 30 minutes. No skin test is required because Restylane, Perlane or RestylaneTouch do not contain any animal derived ingredients, unlike other hyaluronic acid based fillers.

Will the Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treatment hurt?
Some people may experience the Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treatment as uncomfortable. A local anaesthetic cream is often used when treating wrinkles. Another form of anaesthesia, a dental block, is sometimes used when enhancing lips to numb the area being treated.

One of the great advantages of Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent.

• Lines, wrinkles and folds: follow-up treatment is usually needed after 6-12 months
• Lips: follow-up treatment is usually needed after about 6 months

However, duration depends on many factors, such as skin type, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded by the patient and the injection technique of the practitioner.

You keep talking about an acid, does this mean it burns?
No. Hyaluronic acid is a form of sugar molecule (polysaccharide) that occurs naturally in both humans and animals. The word acid is used in the biological sense, as in a type of protein, in the same way doctors talk about DNA (DeoxyriboNucleic Acid).

How can I improve my lips?
Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch can be used to increase the definition of the lip line, vermilion border, where the lip turns from red to white. It is also effective in defining the philtrum ridges, the two ridges just above the middle part of your upper lip.
The lower lip tends to have more volume than the upper lip and therefore it may not be necessary to treat it. You should discuss your exact requirements and expectations for your Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treatment with the nurse or doctor at your initial consultation.

When discussing lip treatments, why does the doctor need to know if I have suffered in the past from cold sores?
Prior to lip enhancement, it is important for the clinician to know if you have had cold sores recently or have experienced problems with cold sores in the past. This is because the cold sore virus can lie dormant in the lips and as such will not cause any problems. However by injecting the lips, the needle can stimulate the virus back into activity again and as a result cold sores can erupt at the injection sites.
Being prone to cold sores does not necessarily mean that the sores will automatically re-emerge after the Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treatment but there is a risk that this might happen. This risk needs to be discussed fully with the doctor during your initial consultation. It is important to remember that hyaluronic acid gel does not cause cold sores in its own right.

What are the risks of side effects from the Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treatment?
More than 1 million treatments have been carried out successfully since the launch of Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch in 1996. Some common injection-related reactions might occur after a Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch injection. These reactions include redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site. They typically resolve spontaneously within one or two days after treatment.
Adverse reactions are very rare with incidences of hypersensitivity put at less than 1 in 2,000.

What happens to my treated skin in the sun or in the cold?
The treated areas must not be exposed to intense heat or extreme cold for the first few days after treatment. This is to avoid risk of inflammation since the area has been disturbed. The gel will not harden or soften as outside temperatures change. Saunas and steam rooms should also be avoided for the first few days after the Restylane, Perlane, RestylaneLipp and RestylaneTouch treatment.
